The Rev. Richard Myers of the New Life World Outreach Ministries was named "Oustanding Citizen" for December 2014 by the Greater Millville Chamber of Commerce.
The senior pastor of New Life Church, Rev. Myers puts strong emphasis on service to his congregation, the community, and outreach to others.
Before entering the ministry, Pastor Myers held many executive and leadership positions. He was executive vice president of an advertising agency and prior to that he was director of marketing for the multi-family division of US Home, and a divisional manager for Sears.
Myers, a native of Pleasantville, attended Sacramento City College and participated in an exchange program in Germany through the University of Maryland .
Serving in the ministry for more than 38 years, Myers, with his family traveled internationally for the first eight years, as an evangelist. For the past 28 years, they have served New Life, guiding it from 70 members in 1986 to approximately 500 currently. He and Helen have been married for 47 years and have a daughter, Kristin Wnorowski, all associated with the church. He has two grandchildren.
Myers has led the church in an almost $10 million building program, including an ambitious construction that is underway, which will have a full theatrical stage, an indoor basketball court, 17 classrooms and many other features. The facilities will be used not only by his congregation, but many from the community.
Pastor Myers notes that this church is one of the most integrated in the area with African-Americans, Hispanics and white members.
A strong advocate of community service, the Pastor Myers said, “There are a lot of people who take from the community. If all we do is take from the community and not give back, our community will die.”
Myers is one of the police chaplains for the Millville Police Department, senior chaplain at the New Jersey Motor Sports Park and one of the chaplains for Inspira Health Network . His church spearheads many outreaches to the community including feeding programs, drama presentations and helping the less fortunate.
Myers is co-founder of One Heart World Fellowship, a fellowship of churches around the world that share the same goal of giving people a better life. He and Dr. Mike Pangio also founded the Abundant Life Ministries International, which plants churches and Bible schools throughout the world. Through their combined efforts and those of their churches, they oversee more than 500 churches and 67 Bible schools in 24 nations, Myers said.
