Bogart’s Bookstore and Café was established in 2005 by Amy Lombardo after the purchase of Windchimes Bookstore. During her time as owner, Amy expanded the business to include not only new and used books, but also an array of coffee and other beverages, snacks, and lunch options. Live music is also a Bogart’s staple- where local musicians are hosted live every Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
In March of 2016, Erin and Sara Dobson officially purchased Bogart’s Bookstore and Café and began the monumental task of moving the shop to its current location at 103 N High Street. After only 17 days of moving, the store reopened to wide acclaim. Many customers volunteered their time and energy to make such a quick changeover possible, and this outpouring of support is a testament to the importance of Bogart’s in downtown Millville. Shortly after reopening, the store jumped on the opportunity to be a part of Mrs. M’s Hooked on Books, an event to promote literacy in one of Millville’s neighborhoods. Bogart’s is collaborating with several local businesses and organizations to encourage reading in the town’s young people.
Many different groups use Bogart’s as their place to gather and share ideas. In the coming year, Erin and Sara look to expand the menu to include additional lunch items and beverages. Expanded hours are also being examined to better serve early birds and night owls. A young adult book club is being formed for the summer months and several events are planned to promote reading and community engagement. Erin and Sara are proud to be able to keep Bogart’s operating as a fixture on High Street, and a meeting place for the citizens of Millville.
