The Greater Millville Chamber of Commerce presented Tim Shannon with the 2015 Pride in Millville Award for his lifelong dedication to the Holly City.

 

Here is the text from the presentation speech by Board Member Marianne Lods on May 20, 2015 ...

 

Tim Shannon ... Born and raised in Millville --  “Home Grown” with white socks……

 

Tim Shannon was raised at 2nd and Sassafras, and played in the hood with the “2nd Street Tigers” along with Dave and Danny Jones and John DenBlenker.

 

Tim Shannon was fortunate to have great loving, nurturing and supportive parents and a wonderful family to provide a foundation, guidance, purpose, and instilled a commitment to our community.

 

Proud owner and partner with brother Rob in the family owned and operated business in Millville for the 147th year, spanning 5 generations…

 

Rocap-Shannon has sponsored numerous youth sports teams and other community based programs and charities.

 

Tim enjoyed the time he spent with the youth of the community, coaching in the Holly City Midget Football League, Tri-County Football League, as the head coach for JV and Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach at the local high school.

 

He was deeply involved with the Millville Girls Softball Organization of which his mother was one of the three founding members, the Tidal Wave Girls Softball Organization.   For over 25 years Tim coached girls fast pitch softball, highlighted by coaching in the Babe Ruth Girls Softball World Series ……

A Proud History of Service to His Community:  

Tim Shannon is a lifelong Millville resident who has had a profound impact on the Holly City through his involvement in athletics and also in local politics. Along with his family, his service to the Holly City made him a unanimous choice to win the 2015 Pride in Millville Award from the Greater Millville Chamber of Commerce.

2015 Pride in Millville Award:

The time spent with his two daughters and other young ballplayers brought some of the greatest joy in his life…

 

And to see these young people grow and become parents and active in their community is a great source of pride for him……

 

Tim spearheaded the construction and location of the Thunderbolt Club/Millville Sports Hall of Fame.

 

First elected to office in 2001, Tim became the Commissioner of Fun, re-elected to a 2nd term, and became Mayor in 2009…..

 

He had the pleasure of working with some outstanding leaders and city employees, like Kim Warker, Lew Thompson, John Knoop, Susan Robostello , Wendy Mercado, Peggy Huff and his Girl Sam, Samantha White Cruz.

 

Tim also felt very fortunate to work with wonderful men on the City Commission, including, Dave Vanaman, Jim Parent, Jim Quinn, John Hollingshead, Dale Finch and Joe Derella.

 

A shared vision by City leaders, it resulted in the continued support for the Downtown Arts District, improvements to the Maurice River waterfront, walking trails, and his personal favorite “Bridge to Nowhere” – plus great public access to one of Millville’s greatest treasure’s -- The Wild & Scenic Maurice River. Tim was also involved in the Cumberland Crossing Shopping Center, New Jersey Motorsports Park, improvements and construction of a Solar Farm at the Waste Water Treatment Plant,

 

Tim was instrumental with the improved and larger Millville Soccer Complex and improvements to other Recreation facilities, and the true gem, the re-opening and dedication of the grand Levoy Theater.

 

Tim Shannon wore many hats, including MC, Sportscaster, TV Show Host, Politician, Coach … but his newest hat is that of POP POP  -- To Reagan “Reggie” Shannon Scott.
